Board Members and Officers

Board membership is voluntary, and we actively welcome volunteers for board service, with options to serve on committees, or as directors, if elected by the process outlined in the by laws.

A member need not serve as a board member to serve on a committee, and the board welcomes all volunteers.

If you are interested, please send an email that explains your interest in helping Fish Bay become an even better place to be.

May 2026  Cheryl Ann McDaniel, Vice President

Cheryl and her husband, Dave, bought property in Estate Fish Bay in 2007, on which they built Butterfly Beach Villa and official moved in 2010.  It is their 2nd home that we share with friends and family.  Recently, they purchased another parcel in Estate Fish Bay and are working on a villa that will be rented for short term rental and hopefully, be a positive move in our retirement plans.  While Cheryl has been in Fish Bay since 2010, she shared that,  “I was only living there and not participating. Now that I am on the Board and participating in the community, I truly feel a part of St John.”  She decided to join the board because of her mother.  While deceased, her attitude was always: “If you complain then be part of the solution or be quiet.”  Cheryl was not happy with what she viewed as lack of transparency from the Board.  When invited to be on the Board, she felt that, as my mother drilled: “Either join to be a part of solutions or be quiet.”  She is  thrilled to have learned that the Board members are people who care deeply about Estate Fish Bay and work longer hours than most of us realized toward that commitment.  Cheryl lives in New Jersey when not on island.  Her immediate family, 12 of us when together, enjoy time in both NJ and St John.  Extended family, mostly from Ohio, also share time on St John and think of it as their second home!  Cheryl has owned businesses since 1995 that support prescription drug distribution.

Tammy Ahles.jpg

May 2027  Tammy Ahles, Treasurer

Tammy and her husband Craig have been traveling to St John for over 12 years. They fell in love with the island from the moment they stepped off the ferry in Cruz Bay.  They purchased their home in Fish Bay, Turtle’s Nest, in November of 2018 and use is as a short-term vacation rental when they are not on island themselves.  Fish Bay was their first choice in finding a home on St. John because of the community and people who live there and care so much about the island. When they retire, they plan to spend most of their time one island when not at their home in PA. Tammy, Craig, and their dog Abby live in the State College area. When not working they love to spend time with their daughter Katlyn, granddaughter Bella or in their favorite place St. John.  Tammy works for the American Cancer Society and is currently the Chief of Staff for the Northeast Region. She is responsible for leading fundraising and operations strategy within the 13 state Northeast Region.  She joined the American Cancer Society in October of 2008.  Tammy joined the board in 2023, as interim director and is now serving as Treasurer.  She hopes to help the board and the Fish Bay community continue to prosper while protecting the precious beauty and nature of the island.

He looks forward to visits from his two daughters and three grandchildren who wing in from Massachusetts and England from time to time.  Jon was elected to the EFBOA Board in 2022 and is now serving as Secretary, responsible for communications with the Fish Bay community, as well as supervising the Annual Election.  He hopes to see Fish Bay grow and prosper as a community dedicated to the stewardship of the natural environment and the preservation of the wetlands.
